Exhibition: Wolf Wostell. Life = Art = Life

Wolf Vostell, LIFE = ART = LIFE. View of the exhibition at MUSAC, the Castilla y León Museum of Contemporary Art, 2018.

MUSAC reviews the career of the artist Wolf Wostell, from the 1950s to 1998, in a retrospective gathering about fifty of his most iconic works, including installations, paintings, sculptures and films.

Considered the pioneer of the happening in Europe, Wostell was also the co-founder of the Fluxus movement and created the term Dé-coll/age. His work has inspired generations of creators and forms part of the foundations of many current art practices.

This exhibition explores the key concepts of his work throughout his career: the relationship between art and life, the exploration of the frontiers of art, the documentation of the political and social changes and conflicts of the period through innovative artistic strategies such as seriality or the use of video, etc.

Some of his best-known works and series are in the exhibition, loaned by different museums and public institutions, some of which are being shown for the first time.
