Exhibition: Mulieres. Women in Augusta Emerita

© Museo Nacional de Arte Romano The National Museum of Roman Art in Mérida highlights the role of women in the ancient world with the exhibition “Mulieres. Women in Augusta Emerita”, organised to complement the International Classical Theatre Festival. Through fifty items from the museum’s collections, the show focuses on the restricted role of women living in the capital of Roman Lusitania in the 4th to 1st centuries BCE, despite the importance attributed to them in historical sources. The exhibition includes recently discovered items, such as the Lampas Relief, which are now presented to the public for the first time. It is divided into four themed areas: public life, private life, religion, and culture.
