The art developed by this monarchy of Gothic origin was fundamentally influenced by the Roman and paleo-Christian tradition, and also featured significant Byzantine influences. The only authentically Visigoth architecture is found in various 7th-century constructions dating from the end of their history. Very few examples have been handed down to us and they consist of simple rural churches located in the north and west of Spain. The decorative arts, and specifically items worked in gold, were also of a very high standard.
