" Mozarabic art, also known as the art of the repopulation, was the first Andalusí artistic influence to make their mark on the Christian kingdoms in northern Spain."

The concept of Mozarabic refers to the populations of Visigoth origin which existed when Spain was under Muslim domination, and most of whose cultural aspects had taken on an Arab flavour. They conserved their Christian religion and their Visigoth laws to conduct their internal affairs within protected communities. The repopulations undertaken by the kingdoms of Castile and Leon throughout the 10th century in the basin of the Duero river attracted a considerable number of Mozarabs to these regions. They brought with them the influence of the typical art of the Cordoba Caliphate, not only in architecture but also in their illuminated Romanesque manuscripts such as the holy texts known as the Beatus.
