Sephardic culture

Between two diasporas. For centuries, up to their expulsion in 1492, Spain was a place of refuge for Jews. There was a time when synagogues, mosques and churches were intermingled and received their respective believers. This was the Spain of the Three Cultures, of which Toledo was the major centre. Descendants of the Jews who were expelled by the Catholic Monarchs still recall with nostalgia today their lost Sephardic land. The intellectual contribution of the Jews in those centuries made Spanish culture, which lit up Europe in those times, shine even brighter. The synagogues and Jewish quarters to be found in many cities and towns throughout Spain are the material remnants left to us of their culture.

Sephardic Museum  -  In the heart of Toledo’s Jewish quarter, it conserves the legacy of Spanish Jewish and Sephardic culture, and also organises many related activities.   See more
