Roman Hispania

Roman Hispania

The definitive connection with the exterior. The splendour of the ancient world flourishes in Spain. From the time Scipio first disembarked in Tarragona until the invasion of the Goths, for six centuries –between 218 B.C. to the beginning of the fifth century A.D.– our country was known as Hispania, part of the Roman Empire and one of its richest provinces. The Romans gave us their culture, their technical know-how, their political and administrative organisation, and even their legal code. A handful of cities would grow in size and importance until they became veritable capitals of the classical world.
