The events held in 2016 to commemorate the 4th Centenary of Cervantes’ death have given us an opportunity to re-examine the author of the immortal novel 'Don Quixote of La Mancha'. His literary world, his works, and his characters, are still a source of inspiration. But special celebrations are not needed to enjoy the art and the wit of Miguel de Cervantes. It’s always a good time to read his work.
Miguel de Cervantes was a novelist, soldier, poet and playwright. He lived in turbulent times, and his life was also turbulent. In his writing, he criticised the society of his times, and pondered the eternal matters of humanity: love, politics, power, money, education, religion… universal themes that are still relevant to us, four centuries later.
'El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha' is undoubtedly his masterpiece, a novel which has inspired artists of every kind. However, it is also true that the adventures of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza often overshadow the rest of his work. On this site, we invite you to take a closer look at the man and his creations; to visit the destinations, museums and monuments of Spain with links to Cervantes; and to discover other artists and authors who based their work on his famous novel.
