A Coruña, Galicia

This coastal municipality of Galicia is known for its very long beaches. However, it also has a rich heritage of historic monuments. Its historic center has been declared of Cultural Interest.

Muxia is about 79 kilometres from Santiago de Compostela. It is on the Costa da Morte coast of Galicia, and its peaceful beaches, lying between woods and dunes, are its main attraction. However, there is a great deal more to be seen. In its surrounding area stands the historic site of San Julián de Moraime Monastery, one of the most interesting examples of Galician Romanesque.

The Santa María A Barca Shrine, and its legendary stones, are another place of special interest. The panoramic view its gives of the sea is quite exceptional. In September a popular pilgrimage takes place here; one of the traditions is to try to move its enormous white stones in order to make one’s wishes come true.
Muxía is the starting point for a number of routes and trails that reveal the spectacular scenery of the Costa da Morte coast.
