It is part of the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music, and was created in 1983 to contribute to training Spanish musicians in the stage prior to their becoming professionals.
Its basic objective is to expand and improve musicians' knowledge through the study and practice of the symphony and chamber repertoire. The JONDE holds some five events a year which culminate in a series of concerts.
It was responsible for creating the Academy of Contemporary Music, and collaborated with soloists of the stature of Mstislav Rostropovich, Agustín León Ara and Rafael Orozco. It has also performed in numerous festivals and auditoriums in Spain, and has toured Belgium, Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, Hungary, France, United States, Italy, United Kingdom, Portugal, Luxembourg, Germany, Holland, and Austria.
