It comprised young university students linked to the Student Residence and was led by Federico García Lorca.

It appeared in 1932 and aimed to promote travelling theatre and revitalise the Spanish stage. Its performances often took place in small provincial capitals and towns around Spain. It performed theatre classics in an attempt to educated popular tastes.
