A chance to discover some of the puppets from this puppet company with over 200 years of experience at the Cadiz Museum.
The company's beginnings date back to the mid-18th century. Its performances ended on a special note with a ‘sainete' comedy sketch performed by puppets representing well-known characters in Cadiz. The shows were characterised by sharp, direct, light-hearted language.
The company was very successful up to the Spanish Civil War when its decline began until its disappearance in 1959. The company re-grouped in 1974 and, since then, several administrations have contributed to ensure the tradition survives. Today the company is still active and takes part in a range of festivals in the city of Cadiz. It is also commemorated in the names of two theatrical venues: the Sala Tia Norica del Baluarte de la Candelaria and the Teatro Cómico de la Tía Norica, which opened in 2012.
