Born in A Coruña in 1960. Self-taught, he filmed his first short film in Galician at the age of 17: “A semente” (“The seed”). Later on, in 1981 he made “Tacón”, adapted from a text by the writer Jorge Luis Borges. The following year he started producing films on video format as “Veneno puro”, “Viuda Gómez” and “Golpe de látigo”, which were successful in the most important festivals of that genre. He released his first feature film, “Continental” in 1990 and was nominated for a Goya for best new director. Then he directed “Finisterre” (1999), which won several awards in international festivals, and “Thirteen Chimes”, based on the work by Suso del Toro, for which he won a Mestre Mateo award for best film. As well as being a director, he works in a production company making advertisements.
