"Screenwriter and film director. He has adapted works by Juan Marsé, Luis Martín Santos or Antonio Gala, among others."

He was born in Barcelona in 1926. At the age of 22 he emigrated to Venezuela, where he remained until 1955. He returned to Spain and came into contact with members of the Barcelona Film School, with whom he produced “Brillante porvenir” (Promising Future) in 1964. Two years later he directed “Fata Morgana” to great critical acclaim. In 1979 he adapted Juan Marsé’s novel, “La muchacha de las bragas de oro” (Girl with the Golden Panties), and in 1982 “Asesinato en el comité central” (Murder in the Central Committee), based on the novel by Manuel Vázquez Montalbán. He has adapted the novel “Los jinetes del alba” (Riders of the Dawn), by Fernández Santos, for television. In February 1991 he released “Amantes” (Lovers), a film that won the Goya Award for best director. He died in Madrid in 2015.
