"Mezzosoprano. She has acted on stages all over the world performing a wide.-ranging repertoire of Spanish and European music."

She was born in Madrid in 1935. She studied piano in her native city, and in 1957 obtained her first great triumph at the Festival of Aix-en-Provence. She has also sung in La Scala in Milan and in Dallas, where she shared the stage with Maria Callas. One of the highlights of her career was her performance during the Universal Exhibition in Seville at the La Maestranza theatre, where she sang 'Carmen', by Bizet. In addition to opera, she has also sung zarzuela, Italian aria, lied and a wide repertoire of Spanish and French music. In 2002 together with her daughter, the soprano Cecilia Lavilla, she gave one of her last stage performances at the Liceo theatre in Barcelona. She is also well-known for her teaching work, and holds the Chair of Singing in the Reina Sofía Higher Music School.
