Date of death

" Poet, narrator and playwright. His work moves between the grotesque and the lyrical, combining it with irony and sarcasm. He was an important figure in Catalan literature."

He was born in Santa Coloma de Farnés (Girona) in 1913, but he moved with his family to Barcelona. He studied law and ancient history. He wrote “Israel” when he was 16 years old. It was his first and only novel in Spanish. He became interested in classical Egyptian and Jewish culture. During the Spanish Civil War, he was assigned to the Auditoria de Guerra (war accounting office) in Barcelona, where he wrote “Antigone”. When the war ended, he was banned from writing in Catalan. For this reason, his literary activity decreased. He started writing again in 1950. “El caminant I el mur” and “La pell de brau” are from this period. He was one of the founders of the Association of Catalan Writers. He died in Barcelona in 1985.
