He was born in Barcelona in 1945 and went on to study Law, Philosophy and Letters at Barcelona University. After publishing “Mensaje del Tetrarca” (1963), he wrote “Burning Sea”, which earned him the National Poetry Award in 1966. His work can be categorised within the generation of the “Novísimos”, poetic current popular in the second half of the 20th century. “Els miralls” (1970) is his first book of poems written in Catalan. In December of 1985, Pere Gimferrer became a member of the Royal Language Academy, with a speech on Vicente Aleixandre to occupy the “O” chair. He has translated many works into Spanish, including those by Ramon Llull, Ausiàs March, Beckett and Joan Brossa. He is a founder and permanent member of the European Poetry Academy in Luxemburg.
