Born in Puerto de Santa María (Cadiz) in 1881, he studied law and philosophy at the University of Seville. After finishing his studies he moved to Madrid to work as civil servant at the Ministry for Public Works. A fan of the theatre, he met Pedro Pérez Fernández with whom he wrote several comedy works which were premièred at the Apolo Theatre. He premièred three works in 1918, one of them his greatest hit: La venganza de Don Mendo. This work is the best example of the comedy sub-genre created by the writer, astracanada, which was very popular on the Spanish stage in the first third of the 20th century. At the peak of his career, he was killed in Paracuellos del Jarama in 1936.
