Francisco Martínez Roca, Paco Roca, was born in Valencia in 1969. He studied fine art and began to work in advertising. He published his first comic strips in the magazines 'Kiss Comix' and 'El Víbora'. He bases his work on references to real characters, places and events, and particularly to the history and culture of Spain; for example, in 'El juego lúgubre' he finds similarities between Dalí and Dracula. In 'El invierno del dibujante' he recounts the real-life experience of five draughtsmen in 1950s Spain. In 2007 he published 'Arrugas', a novel in comic form for which he received the National Comic Award. In 2011 he was the screenwriter and designer for the film adaptation of this work – “Wrinkles”, winner of two Goya awards in 2012. His works are published in France and Italy where he has received numerous accolades. Since March 2010 he has published a weekly page in the newspaper 'Las Provincias' in Valencia.
