Pablo Berger was born in Bilbao in 1963. He embarked on his film career in 1988 with a short film entitled "Mamá". Thanks to the awards he won with this work, in 1990 he was given a grant to study a Master's degree in Filmmaking at New York University's Tisch School of Arts. During his stay in the United States he directed the short film entitled "Truth and Beauty", which was nominated for the Emmy awards. In 1995 he gave classes in direction at the New York Film Academy. He has also taught courses at the universities of Cambridge, Princeton and Yale, among others. On his return to Spain, he made his first feature film in 2003, "Torremolinos 73", with which he went on to achieve success in numerous international festivals. His second film "Blancanieves" was shot in black and white as a silent film, and came eight years later. Among other accolades, it earned him ten Goya awards in 2013, including best film.
