Miguel Servetus was born in Villanueva de Sigena in 1511. At the age of 15 he entered the service of Juan de Quintana, a Franciscan who followed Erasmism. He lived in Toulouse in 1528 where he studied law and first came into contact with the Reformation. He worked at de Quintana’s secretary again the following year, who was named confessor to Charles I, and attended the coronation of the emperor in Bologna. After leaving the traditional faith and de Quintana’s service (1530), he had personal relationships in Basel and Strasbourg with standout reformers and published De Trinitatis erroribus in 1531, a book which was condemned by Catholics and Protestants. Calvin, with whom he corresponded, denounced him to the Inquisition for heresy after reading Christianisimi Restitutio. He died at the stake in Geneva in 1553.
