"Actor, director and theatre critic. With an extensive track record he has gained a preferential place in Spanish theatre in recent decades."

He was born in Montevideo (Uruguay) in 1946, whilst his parents were touring around Latin America with the Liceo company. He started the opera campaign series at the Grec Theatre in Barcelona. He programmed the Barcelona Autumn Festival between 1989 and 1992. In 1995 he directed Valle-Inclán’s Martes de Carnaval and filmed the futurist Atolladero to later repeat the experience with The Pianist. He was nominated for a Goya award for the best supporting actor in 1999 for Beloved/Friend by Ventura Pons and won the 1998 Max award for best stage direction for the musical Sweeney Todd. He was named director of the Teatro Español in Madrid in 2004 and has dubbed some films.
