Mariano Bayón was born in Madrid in 1946. He graduated from the School of Architecture in Madrid in 1968, where he later worked as a lecturer. An admirer of Alejandro de la Sota, his work is characterised by rationalism, simple lines and clean shapes. The Gran Vía de San Francisco el Grande housing scheme in Madrid and the Red Eléctrica de España building on La Cartuja island in Seville are just a couple of examples. His renovation projects for stage and cultural spaces also stand out in his career.
