Marcos Giralt Torrente was born in Madrid in 1968. He is the son of the painter Juan Giralt and grandson of the writer Gonzalo Torrente Ballester. He graduated in philosophy from the Universidad Autónoma in Madrid. He was author in residence at the Spanish Academy in Rome, the Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf, and the University of Aberdeen. He also took part in the 2002-2003 Berlin Artists-in-Residence Programme. He is a frequent contributor to the press as well as a literary critic. His first work was the collection of short stories entitled 'Entiéndame' (1995). He subsequently wrote other pieces for which he has won a variety of awards. His stories can also be found in some anthologies including 'Páginas amarillas', 'Los cuentos que se cuentan' and 'Lo del amor es un cuento'.
