"Writer and journalist. One of the most active members of the “Barcelona circle”, which was to form the core of the future "Generation of 1950"."

He was born in Barcelona in 1935 in a family of writers, among them his brothers Juan and José Agustín Goytisolo. Shortly after graduating in Law he published his first novel “Las afueras” (The Suburbs), which won the Biblioteca Breve prize in 1958. He writes frequently for the Spanish and international press, and has written the scripts for documentaries produced by Spanish Television, such as "Índico" and "Mediterráneo". He also took over the magazine “Letra internacional” in 1990 following the death of its editor Carlos Barral. In 1993 he published his novel “Estatua con palomas” (Statue with Pigeons), which received the National Fiction Award. A year later, in 1994, he was elected a member of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language. He has created the Luis Goytisolo Foundation for the study of contemporary Hispanic fiction.
