" A theatre impresario, playwright and zarzuela librettist. He was greatly criticised in his time for weak dramatic construct and abundant implausibility. "

He was born in Malaga in 1823 and left his bohemian life in his native city for Madrid, where he ran small variety theatres and worked for the press. He was a prolific playwright and wrote comedies, one-act comedies and zarzuela operettas, arranged by the most famous composers of the era. He collaborated with authors such as Mariano Pina and Luis Valladares Garriga. Highlights of his works include El primo y el relicario, a comedy from 1843, El caudillo de Zamora, a drama from 1847, and the comedy-drama Las dos carteras from 1851. His zarzuelas include Galanteos en Venecia, 1853, El sargento Federico, 1855 and Casado y soltero, 1858. He enjoyed the talent of maestro Joaquín Gatzambide for the music to El valle de Andorra. He died in Barcelona in 1863.
