Date of death

" Writer, composer and vihuela player. He was the first to publish music for vihuela and one of the first to provide instructions marking the tempo in which a piece should be performed."

There is little reliable information on his life. His importance to the world of music is due to the fact that 'El Maestro' is the first book published in Spain for the teaching of musical instrument. It was published in Valencia in 1536. Unlike other works of the time it does not contain adaptations of polyphonic vocal works, but original pieces written by Milán himself, who was also known as Lluís del Milà. It is divided into two books and contains fantasies, pavanas, tientos, Christmas carols, ballads and sonnets. Other works of his which still survive include the 'Libro de Motes de damas y cavalleros intitulado El Juego de Mandar' and 'El Cortesano', which are chronicles and poems on courtly life, containing no music.
