" Journalist and writer. He is considered to be one of the most important journalists of the 20th century."

He was born in Villanueva de Arosa (Pontevedra) in 1882. When he was 13 years old he set off as a stowaway to Buenos Aires, where he frequented anarchist groups until he was expelled from the country in 1902. In 1908 he started his career as a correspondent for several conservative newspapers. During the Spanish Civil War he was on the nationalist side. He published many articles, especially in the ABC newspaper in Seville, satirising the Republic and its most important leaders. His work is part travel book and part chronicle. He also stood out because of his humorous comments with narrative elements; all of his caricatures lack bitterness, even in his satire. His complete works were published in 1948. In 2004 "La Casa de Lúculo" was re-edited, considered by some to be the best gastronomic book ever written in Spain. He died in Madrid in 1962.
