He was born in Larrinoa (Álava), in 1480. In 1502 he travelled to Italy and discovered the typical Renaissance decorative motifs, which he used in his works later on. His first construction work was the floor plan for the cloister in Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in 1510. In 1515 he worked together with Enrique Egas in the Royal Chapel in Seville Cathedral. Two years later he designed and directed the construction of the main façade of Plasencia Cathedral. In 1520 he took part in the construction of the church and cloister of Convent of La Victoria, and supervised the construction work for the New Cathedral of Salamanca, until 1535. He designed the seven emblems in the courtyard of Salamanca University. He died in 1537.
