He was born in Madrid in 1942. He started out by playing drums and working on musical arrangements for a record company, before he made his film debut with Jaime de Armiñán. Without renouncing his jazz origins, he composed works with a marked flamenco influence. In 1993 he conducted the RTVE orchestra at the Vitoria Jazz Festival to accompany the group Manhattan Transfer. In 1992 he took part in the International Film Music Congress together with Poledouris, Nascimbene and Piovani, and composed the music for the lakeside show at the Universal Exhibition in Seville. He has also created music for BBC documentaries, and over thirty soundtracks for Spanish films.
