"Writer. He is considered one of the great Spanish writers of short stories and novellas."

He was born in A Coruña in 1941, but spent his childhood and adolescence in León. He graduated in law and then worked as a government employee in the Ministry of Education until he decided to dedicate himself full-time to literature. In 1972 he published 'Sitio de Tarifa', his first work of poetry, but it was with his first book, 'Novela de Andrés Choz', that he received the Novels and Stories Prize in 1976. He has contributed to the literary supplement 'Pueblo', where together with Juan Pedro Aparicio and Luis Mateo Díez, he created the character Sabino Ordás, who signed the articles. He was director of the Centre for Spanish Literature between 1986 and 1989. He has also written for children and young people, for which he won the National Children's Literature Award in 1993.
