José Luis García Muñoz was born in Madrid in 1944. He started out in the world of film as a scriptwriter, where he soon had a major success with his screenplay for 'La cabina', written together with Antonio Mercero, which won an Emmy award. In 1977 he directed his first film, 'Asignatura pendiente', which was followed by titles such as 'Solos en la madrugada' and 'El crack'. He has directed such box office and critical hits as 'Sesión continua', 'Cradle song' and 'El abuelo'. He has also had an intense career as a writer, in addition to an established reputation on television as a scriptwriter for several production and as the director of the film programme '¡Qué grande es el cine!'.
