" Poet, writer and literary critic. José Luis Cano is considered to be one of the leading experts in the poetry of the Generations of '27 and '36."

He was born in Algeciras in 1911. During the 2nd Republic he lived in Madrid, where he made the acquaintance of artists such as Luis Cernuda, Vicente Aleixandre and Pablo Neruda. After the Spanish Civil War he dedicated himself to the study of the work of Aleixandre and published the diary of the author entitled 'Los cuadernos de Velintonia'. He also wrote poetry himself, as well as the biographies of Federico García Lorca and Antonio Machado. In 1947 he founded the literary review 'Ínsula', a publication which was to become a reference for the sector in the second half of the 20th century. He was also editor of the Adonais poetry collection. He died in Madrid in 1999.
