Date of death

" Poet. He holds an important place among the poetry of the “Generation of the 1950s,” in which he stands out because of his humanism and acute capacity for satire."

Born in Barcelona in 1928, he was the older brother of the also well-known authors Juan and Luis Goytisolo. He published, around the middle of the 1950s, his first book of poems, “El Retorno” (The Return), which earned him wide recognition as a poet. The work is an elegy for his mother, who died in the bombing of Barcelona during the Civil War. Later came other books of poetry, among which “Algo Sucede” (Something is Happening), published in 1968, stands out. It includes one of his most celebrated poems, “Palabras para Julia” (Words for Julia), dedicated to his daughter and sung by Paco Ibáñez and other composers. His work combines social worries with a study of the aesthetic possibilities of language. He died in Barcelona in 1999.
