Date of birth

Feb 12, 1949

"He is one of the most important singer-songwriters in the history of Spanish pop. With his urban poet style, many of his songs are part of the collective Spanish memory."

Joaquín Ramón Martínez Sabina was born in Ubeda (Jaén) in 1949 and wrote his first lyrics at 14 years of age. In 1970 he was exiled to London for political reasons and he remained there for 7 years. That stay was fundamental for his future path as a singer-songwriter. When he returned to Spain, he recorded his first record, “Inventario” (Inventory) (1978) and began a long and successful career with at least twenty records, which sold millions of copies. He published several books of poems, of which “Ciento volando de catorce” stands out, selling 150,000 copies. After 4 years of not recording, he released “Vinagre y Rosas” (Vinegar and Roses) in November 2009, which got three platinum records.
