Joaquín Pedraja Reyes-Cortés was born in Cordoba in 1969. He moved to Madrid where he began his training as a dancer. When he was 15 years old he joined the Spanish National Ballet. In 1990 he began his solo career; he has worked with various companies and productions as a guest artist and choreographer. In 1992 he set up his own company and presented his first production entitled 'Cibayí'. In partnership with the choreographer Debbie Allen, he took part in the Oscar awards ceremony in 1999. In January 2000 he starred in the film 'Gitano', written by Arturo Pérez Reverte and directed by Manuel Palacios. He has also played roles in films by Pedro Almodóvar and Carlos Saura. In 2009 he staged his show 'Calé' at the Beacon Theatre in Manhattan.
