Date of death

"Poet and editor. He cultivated the theatre of the absurd, and enjoyed widespread acclaim in Catalan literary circles who valued his experimental literature, far removed from the prevailing tastes of the time.  "

He was born in Barcelona in 1919, and was self-taught. He was involved in the main avant-garde movements in Catalonia, and set up various cultural journals. His first collections of poetry went largely unnoticed, until his reputation was established in 1970 with 'Poesia rasa' (1943-1959). In view of the success achieved by this anthology, in 1977 he published 'Poemes de seny i cabell' (1957-1963). This work was considered to be the definitive compilation of a poetic oeuvre which was decisive in the evolution of Catalan literature in the second half of the 20th century. He also created a series of plastic compositions, or visual poems, in which the text is linked to the pictorial frame which contains it, which he classified as 'Visual poetry'. He died in Barcelona in 1998.
