" Writer. A member of the generation of 1950, his work is an example of the Spanish social novel."

He was born in Madrid in 1926, and graduated in Philosophy and Literature at the Complutense University in Madrid: He worked with the Spanish University Theatre as author and director. His first novel, “Los bravos” (The Brave) was published in 1952 and is an example of the social literature of the 1950s. All his literary work was extremely successful among critics, and he received numerous awards, among them the National Critics' Award for Fiction in 1979 for his novel “Extramuros”. The cinema was another of his great passions. He directed the film “Llegar a más” and presented various documentaries for Spanish Television. He was a film critic for the “El País” newspaper. He died in Madrid in 1988 from a liver illness.
