Javier Encinas Bardem was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1969. He is the son of actress Pilar Bardem and nephew to filmmaker Juan Antonio Bardem. His popularity as an actor came with The Ages of Lulu. This was his first film in collaboration with Bigas Luna, with whom he also made Jamón, Jamón and Golden Balls. Standout films in his career include Running Out of Time, Mouth to Mouth and Live Flesh. After an acclaimed brilliant career, he became the first Spanish actor nominated for an Oscar for best actor in his role as the dissident Cuban poet Reinaldo Arenas in the film Before Night Falls by Julian Schnabel. He finally won the award in 2008, for best supporting actor for his role in the Coen brothers’ film No Country for Old Men.
