Born in Eibar (Guipúzcoa) in 1948, he moved to Madrid to study at the Official Journalism School. He worked at different papers but his interest in film led him to the Official Film School, where he specialised in cameras and lighting. He has photographed films for directors such as Imanol Uribe, Julio Médem, Montxo Armendáriz, Fernando Trueba, Pedro Almodóvar and Alejandro Amenábar, with whom he collaborated on The Others and The Sea Inside. Outside Spain he has worked with international directors such as Milos Forman on Goya’s Ghosts, Woody Allen on Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and John Hillcoat on The Road, based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy. He has won several Goya Awards.
