Magdalena Nile del Río was born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 1910. Her film debut came at the age of 21 in Florián Rey’s La hermana San Sulpicio. She also shot more of her great successes with him such Morena Clara and Nobleza Baturra. In 1938 she moved to Germany at the invitation of Nazi propaganda minister Goebbels. She shot films such as Carmen la de Triana and La canción de Aixa for the German production company UFA. She continued to work in film in the 1940s although her links to Nazism took their toll. She regained her prestige in the 1950s with films such as Los piconeros and La cieguita. Her last films include Ama Rosa, Tata mía and El polizón de Ulises. She died in Benalmádena (Malaga) in 2003.
