It was started in Valencia in 1964 by Manolo Valdés, Rafael Solbes and Juan Antonio Toledo, although the latter soon left the group. Far from subscribing to the individualism shown by other groups, Valdés and Solbes worked as a team, displaying a critical concern for the social and political situation. Their paintings are based on what they saw around them, and include photos and posters, as well as pictures of famous paintings. In the 1970s, they moved towards Pop Art, using flat inks and images from the media. The group disbanded with the death of Rafael Solbes in 1981. Valdés continued to work alone. In 1998, he received the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts in recognition of his work.
