" Sculptor. He belonged to the school of Palencia which flourished between the 15th and 16th centuries."

He was born in Palencia in 1510. He worked with Alonso Berruguete on the choir stall of Toledo cathedral, and on his own created the altarpiece for the church of La Magdalena in Valladolid, as well as another altarpiece which is conserved in the diocesan museum in that city. He settled in Madrid where he worked on the altarpiece for the bishop's chapel in Madrid, on a commission from Gutierre de Vargas y Carvajal, the Bishop of Plasencia. He also produced tombs for this patron and for his parents, which are conserved in the same chapel and as a group are considered to be his masterpiece. He subsequently worked in Plasencia on the statue of Don Gutierre's successor to the post of bishop, Pedro Ponce de León. His style clearly derives from that of his teacher Berruguete, whose influence can be seen in the contorted figures and highly expressive faces. He died in Madrid in 1576.
