"Architect. With his unique and avant-garde designs, Fernando Higueras became one of the most outstanding architects of the 20th century."

He was born in Madrid in 1930. In addition to architecture, Fernando Higueras' other two passions were the guitar and painting. In 1958, while he was studying at the Technical School of Architecture in Madrid, he won the Architecture Prize from the Barcelona School of Fine Arts. He obtained his degree in architecture the following year, and shortly after in 1961 he won the National Architecture Award together with Rafael Moneo for their project for the Artistic Restoration Centre in Madrid. He thus embarked on a brilliant professional career, during which he revealed himself to be a master of formal expression. In the 1970s he collaborated with his friend César Manrique in many of his works in Lanzarote, including an urban planning project in Lanzarote which is conserved in the MoMA in New York. His constructions in the 1980s are also evidence of his artistic affinity with Manrique. He died in Madrid in 2008.
