"Film and theatre actor. He is one of Spain's most popular actors with public and critics alike."

He was born in Barcelona in 1932, and started his career at the Spanish University Theatre. In the 1950s he worked with the companies of Fernando Fernán-Gómez and Conchita Montes. He and his wife, Gemma Cuervo, founded their own company and produced plays by Miguel Mihura, Antonio Buero Vallejo, Ana Diosdado and Adolfo Marsillach. At the end of the 1950s, he was involved with the fledgling Spanish public television network performing in several plays for Estudio 1. Since then, he has worked in various successful television series, such as 'La saga de los Rius' and 'Los jinetes del alba'. His film career is studded with successes, including 'La estanquera de Vallecas', 'Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown' and 'Don Juan en los infiernos'. He is the father of the actors Fernando and Cayetana Guillén Cuervo. He died in Madrid in 2013.
