Documented between 1468 and 1507

"He represents the Hispano-Flemish style in Castilla. He was one of the most important and famous Spanish artists in the last third of the 15th century and early 16th century."

He is thought to have been born between 1466 and 1507, and he practised mostly in Salamanca. His first documented work was the Coria altarpiece, no longer in existence, and the altarpiece ordered by Cardinal Juan de Mella for the San Ildefonso chapel in Zamora Cathedral. One of his best works from this early period is ‘La Pietà’, currently in the Prado Museum. He also created the altarpiece of the ‘The Virgin with San Andrés and San Cristóbal’ in Salamanca Cathedral. Some of his most outstanding work is the murals in the vault in Salamanca Library, finished before 1493, the pinnacle of Hispano-Flemish painting, and totally different from that of Pedro de Berruguete.
