"Writer. He is one of the most important writers in the field of contemporary literature, and the author of a body of narratives, poetry and essays which are testament to his depth and capacity for analysis."

He was born in Barcelona in 1944. He is a doctor of Philosophy, and a professor of Aesthetics and Theory of the Arts at the School of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Barcelona. He published his first book of poems, 'Cepo para nutria', in 1968. In 1970 he made his mark on the world of poetry due to his inclusion in the anthology of José María Castellet, 'Nueve novísimos poetas españoles' ('Nine brand-new Spanish poets'). He wrote his first novel in 1972, and is also a distinguished literary critic and a brilliant essayist. He is a regular contributor to the daily newspaper 'El País' and to other periodicals. His narrative features experimental elements and is marked by its bleak vision of modern man, although tempered by a particular sense of the comic, and his biting irony.
