" Theatrical and film set designer. His creations can be seen in many of the masterpieces of Spanish cinema."

He was born in Campo de Criptana (province of Ciudad Real) in 1917 and studied Architecture at the Higher School of Madrid. He entered into contact with the world of films by meeting Imperio Argentina and Florián Rey, for whom he worked redesigning their home. He debuted as a set designer on the film "Huella de luz" (1942) directed by Rafael Gil. He also worked with some of the best Spanish film directors such as Juan Antonio Bardem, Luis García Berlanga, Luis Buñuel and Carlos Saura. He designed sets for a number of theatrical productions and also taught extensively, both at the Institute for Film Research and Experiment and the Official Film School. Apart from his Honorary Goya (1990) he obtained a number of awards from the Film Writers’ Guild and the Order for Civil Merit for his life’s work. He died in Madrid in 1995.
