She was born in Cadiz in 1962 and moved with her family to Madrid in 1974. In 1981 she joined Spanish National Radio, where she worked as a reporter, writer and creator of comic stories. This is how the character of Manolito Gafotas was created. This boy from a working-class neighbourhood in Madrid appeared every day on the radio, with the author reading the stories. In 1990 she began to work on TV, but retired in 1993 to focus on writing. This was the start of the Manolito Gafotas books, which won her a National Children’s and Young People's Literature Award and which have been a huge commercial success. In 1998 she published her first novel for adults, “El otro barrio”, and has written two more. She is a regular contributor to the press and other media.
