"Poet, essayist and painter. Author of a poetic oeuvre which has received various major accolades, and one of the most important poets of the second half of the 20th century."

He was born in Madrid in 1942, and spent his childhood in Priego (Cuenca). He moved to Madrid in the early 1960s, where he began studying journalism. In the 1970s he ran the poetry collection 'Alfa' at the National Publishers, until he was expelled due to his political engagement. In 1961, he published his first collection of poems, 'Grito de carne y lluvia' and in 1964, 'La ciudad', which won him the prestigious Adonáis Prize. 'Itinerario de náufragos', his last collection, received three major literary distinctions: the National Critics' Prize, the National Literature Prize, and the Jaime Gil de Biedma prize. A poet and man of political engagement, he is the author of a deeply reflexive, visionary and innovative work. He died in Madrid in 2009.
