" Musician, composer and the main representative of the Andalusian school of polyphony. Together with Tomás Luis de Victoria and Francisco Guerrero, he forms a golden trio in Spanish Renaissance music."

He was born in Seville in 1500, where he was trained as a child cantor in the cathedral choir by Pedro Fernández de Castilleja and Fernando de Peñaloza. Peñaloza introduced the Flemish technique to Spain, which would influence Morales’s religious compositions. He spent ten years in Rome as a cantor in the choir of Pope Paul III. It was there that he published most of his scores, which had a decisive influence on other musicians, including Palestrina. On his return to Spain, he was master of the choir in Toledo Cathedral. The mysticism of his music has been compared to that of Saint Teresa of Ávila in poetry. He died in 1553.
